Speech on the occasion of International Women's Day (IWD), 8 March 2017 in Walungu
By Odette IRANGA LUSHAYIRE

Executive Secretary of Peuples Sans Voix

Ladies and gentlemen
Dear mothers and daughters of Peuples Sans Voix ( Voiceless People)
Distinguished Guests,
To your respective titles,

 Hello

We thank you all for your response. We wanted to gather on this special day of conviviality as a prelude to International Women's Day, to exchange with the rural women of Walungu and its surroundings in order to improve their knowledge of the International Day of Women’s day (IWD) 2017 "on the theme: "Women in an Evolving Workplace: A 50-50 Planet by 2030"

On March 8, let us remember the principle of equality between men and women!

The International Women's Day, established by the United Nations in 1977, originated in the struggles of workers at the beginning of the 20th century for better working conditions and the right to vote. International Women's Day (Women's Rights Day) is based on legislative advances that have advanced women's rights in most countries but are still under-implemented.

It is a day of events throughout the world: an opportunity to take stock of the situation of women. Traditionally militant groups and associations are preparing demonstrations, celebrating victories and achievements, making their demands heard, in order to improve the situation of women.

The world of work is changing, with enormous consequences for women. On the one hand, technological advances and globalization represent new opportunities for those who have access to them. On the other hand, informality of work, income inequality and humanitarian crises are constantly increasing.

In order to define today's day in relation to the PEUPLES SANS VOIX association in the abbreviation "PSV", it should be remembered that it is a non-profit association led by women working on a voluntary basis created in 2002, Authorization to operate By Order No JUST.GS. 112 / SKV / 2002.It aims to encourage marginalized and forgotten women and girls not to give up, and to rely on them.

Its mission is to change certain prejudices by supporting the rights of girls to access education and the empowerment of rural women. In this context, Peuples Sans Voix has already carried out a few activities:
- Schooling of 49 marginalized girls in Bu dodo The schooling of 49 marginalized girls in Bu dodo in 2012-2013
- Organizing women's groups in MUSO (Women's Self Help Group)
- Community rearing by chicken farming which is an ongoing project

It is pleased to organize for the first time this activity in Walungu to comfort the rural women often left out when the IWD is celebrated.

My ladies and gentlemen, with your permission, let us think together: women are in the majority and hold the upper hand, but not in our assemblies, or in the management of companies, and too rarely at the top of our lists during the elections. Where they are in the majority, it is in the occupation of precarious and part - time contracts, they are the majority in the practice of household tasks, and still the majority in the elderly poor.

Therefore, Broaden the vision of African women, the women of Walungu here present and encouraged them in their initiatives.

To conclude our speech we remind you Ladies and Gentlemen that we will have succeeded when International Women's Day will no longer have any raison d'être, or rather, when it will be every day on 8 March, as Mrs Najat Vallaud-Belkacem ,

 I say and thank you.
