CELABRATE THE INTERNATIONAL WOMAN’S DAY 2017 WITH LOCAL STAKEHOLDERS IN WALUNGU TERRITORY, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

 Brief summary

Peuples Sans Voix (PSV) is a registered organization based in South Kivu Province in the eastern DRCongo aiming to transform the lives of women and girls

In the view to increase the project visibility in the area during the IWD 2017, many stakeholders and authorities have been associated to celebrate together with PSV the international Women’s Day 2017 in Walungu.

As mentioned in the multi year project (Year 1), the celebration of IWD 2017 has a special interest to the women and girls to claim their rights and denounce all forms of discrimination they are experiencing daily.

At PSV, March 8th, 2017 was a particular day in the community considering the events, programs and activities conducted by PSV in collaboration of sub office of the Provincial Ministry of Gender and family established in Walungu.

Briefly the participants heard many speeches, testimonies, denunciation of all discrimination of women and girls.

 Below are the names and function of participants who had a say during the event:

The first to speak was:

  1.  The responsible of sub office of Gender and family in Walungu Territory

Mrs Esperance NGOMORA , was the main speaker charged to summarize all the speeches and talks presented in French and translating them in swahili and Mashi ( local languages spoken in the area)

  1. 2. The Executive Secretary of PSV

 

 Mrs Odette IRANGA LUSHAYIRE.

She presented the opening speech to welcome the participants by reminding them the importance day of March 8th, celebrated each year in the world by the women and girls

She introduced Mrs Laetitia to speak about The IWD 2017 with

  1. The program Officer of Peuples Sans Voix

Mrs Laetitia SHINDANO (presented the purpose the IWD, what is the International Women’s Day, Where it took place, How to celebrate it and what the Congolese women and girls must do to claim their rights).

At the same time, Peuples Sans voix distributed 50 copies of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women's Rights, 25 copies of the law on sexual violence in the DRC, and 100 copies of the history of the International Women's Day

  1. 4. Edith M’ KOKERE, the representative of the Civil Society

 

She presented a memorandum on the be half off all the women and girls in Walungu territory by denouncing the daily violence against women and girls, sexual abuse, a little number of girls out of school, childhood marriage, discrimination of women to access to the job of responsibility, etc…

  1. 5KEKE Jules, a lawyer acting as consultant lawyer at PSV explained the UN 1325 resolution and the difficulties faced Congolese women seeing the delay registered in its application . This resolution has no constraints to the state and governments.
  2. The Administrator of the Walungu Territory , Mr Faustin Ndindiya Wa

NGALALA centered his speech by inviting the women to do not keep in mind that they are weak, inferior comparing to the Men but they are also capable and very strong to more .

He wished to see them being enrolled the Congolese army and in the police force ,because they number in the army and in the police force grow so that the gender will be respected.

He appreciated PEUPLES SANS VOIX who invited a male lawyer to explain the UN 1325 resolution for women’s rights.

  1. The representative of the Kingdom of Ngweshe, Mr KARHAZO Innocent, pronounced the speech sent by the Mwami of Ngweshe. He invited all the women and Girls to register to the list of female candidates as deputy because if they are numerous in the parliament , there will be a hope to see the law promoting the women’s rights voted. The 2017 is a special year of presidential and parliamentary elections in DRC.
  1. The National former Minister of high school and University who is also to date a counselor of President Kabila of DRC, Mr Masu GA RUGAMIKA who is native of the area , enjoyed to celebrate together with the women the IWD 2017. He also urged them to have a large number of women and girls enrolled to the coming general elections in DRC. Because the women’s rights can be well claimed and law voted if there is a large number of women in the parliament.
  1. 9. Interview of the radio Mulangane towards the Executive Secretary of Peuples Sans Voix

 

A journalist from the Mulangane radio approached Mrs Odette IRANGA of PSV to speak about the IWD 2017 organized by Peuples Sans Voix and also about the current project supported by VGIF. It was an opportunity to present the project, the progress and its impact to the beneficiaries. She said that IWD 2017 was a part of the multi year project activity in order to improve the women’s rights, denounce the discrimination

All of them who to took the word said how much they are seeing their lives with changes through the poultry farming received from the support of VGIF .

  1. Cocktail
    After sharing with all the participants to celebrate JIF 2017 together with PEUPLES SANS VOIX ( Voiceless People) , they were invited to the meeting room of the Information Center for Peace (CIP) walungu, for a small cocktail to end the day in beauty. The members of the steering committee involved in the current multi-year project were dressed in pollo and white shirt. To mark the visibility of VGIF as a funder, these tee-shirts carried writings; '' VGIF- International Fund for women and girl supports the IWD 2017 in the DRC. It was a day when many rural women participated for the first time
